ABC – Day 20 – Publishing Format

Did you publish your book as a traditionally printed book, an eBook, an audiobook, or all three? How did you come to your decision? Which company(ies) did you use for printing, formatting, recording, editing, and distribution? How did you select them?

For Swallow Me, NOW!, I self published as both an eBook and a printed book. I would love an audiobook too, but I don’t have the finances just yet.

This book is aimed at primary school children, and most of them don’t have devices they can easily read books on. If they do have iPads, they use them more to play games than read books. With this in mind, it was important to have a printed copy of the book. [Read more…]

ABC – Day 15 – Book cover

Book cover design

Book cover design

Describe your process for choosing and designing your book cover. Who created your cover? How did you find him/her? What do you love about your cover? What might you do differently next time?

When looking at covers for Swallow Me, NOW!, I first headed to the library to look at the covers for other books aimed at a similar age group. I figured those books would give me inspiration and I wanted my book to be able to stand up beside them. As I knew this was the first book in a series, I also wanted something that would set the template for future books. [Read more…]

Legal Deposit

I got a letter in the mail yesterday telling me that my book had been received by the State Library of Victoria for Legal Deposit. Legal Deposit wasn’t something I had heard about before I published my book.

In Australia, Legal Deposit is a requirement under the Copyright Act 1986, where all publishers and self publishers must deposit a copy of their work with the National Library of Australia. There are also state requirements to deposit a copy with State Libraries as well. [Read more…]

I’m in a resource book!

71 Essential online tools WE recommend

A little while ago, I heard about the Women As Entrepreneurs resource book they were putting together. I commented when they did a Facebook call out looking for the online resources we couldn’t do without.

To make a long story short, I received sponsorship from the amazing people at PlanBig to be included in the book, along with two other female entrepreneurs. I had a few short days to get everything written and an updated photograph. Thankfully I was attending an awards night and my brother was the photographer, so I was able to get a new photo. Prompt #22 – My First Book Sigining…

My first book sigining

The 22nd prompt for the Author Blog Challenge is:

Describe your first book signing – real or imagined.

I have a few different projects on the go and I have different ideas for signings for each of them (as opposed to the book launch).

With Accidental WAHM, I imagine a table at a work at home Mum conference or event. The table will have books and an assistant to take the money while I sign books.

Prompt #16 – How did you publish your book?

Printing books

The 16th prompt for the Author Blog Challenge is:

Did you publish your book as a traditionally printed book, an eBook, or both? How did you come to your decision? Which company(ies) did you use for printing and distribution? How did you select them?

As I haven’t published a book yet, this is something I’m exploring, and, to be honest, I don’t have an answer yet.
