All about the cover!

All about the cover!

Day 4 prompt is:

A book cover is a very important marketing tool – probably the first one an author will create. You’ll use it even before your book is done to help build interest. Describe your process for choosing and designing your book cover. Who created your cover? How did you find him/her? What do you love about your cover? What might you do differently next time?

When I was looking for inspiration for the cover for Swallow Me, NOW! I headed straight to the local library and straight to the junior section and looked at books that were aimed at a similar age group and looked at what they had on the covers.

Describe your process for choosing and designing your book cover. Who created your cover? How did you find him/her? What do you love about your cover? What might you do differently next time?

When looking at covers for Swallow Me, NOW!, I first headed to the library to look at the covers for other books aimed at a similar age group. I figured those books would give me inspiration and I wanted my book to be able to stand up beside them. As I knew this was the first book in a series, I also wanted something that would set the template for future books. [Read more…]

Prompt #12 – Choosing & designing my book cover

Choosing a book cover

The 12th prompt for the Author Blog Challenge is:

Describe your process for choosing and designing your book cover. Who created your cover? How did you find him/her? What do you love about your cover? What might you do differently next time?

Now, this is something I am looking forward to… choosing a cover for my book that is about to be out there on the market. And decorating my walls with framed versions of my covers!

Who designs it will depend very much whether I self publish or not. After all, if they get picked up by a publisher, the publisher will choose the designer.

I have a few designers in my database that I can call on to design the cover if I decide to self publish, many of these are WAHMs (work at home mums) and would be in my market for the Accidental WAHM stories. They would have a wonderful insight into what WAHMs would be attracted to in a cover design.

This is a process I am looking forward to when my books are published.
