Get some Bookmarks

Get bookmarksOne of the first things I did when I published my first book was to get bookmarks printed. These have been a wonderful marketing tool for my book.

You can use your bookmark to promote you as an author, a particular book, or a book series. Depending on what you write, you can even use them to promote specific characters! Before you design your bookmark, decide what you are wanting to highlight.

Keep the design simple so you will be sure to get your message across, and include any websites so that people can find you after they have your bookmark.

Get your own business cards

Get business cardsA few nights ago, we went out to dinner and got talking to a lady about my son’s cubing skills, and my writing. Unfortunately, I didn’t have anything with me to giver her so she could check out my blog and website!

Today, I sat down and purchased some business cards so this won’t happen again.

Most authors, myself included, have bookmarks, however they are not always practical to have with you all the time. One advantage of a business card is they can easily fit in card pockets in your wallet or purse, and there are purpose made business card holders if you want to keep a pile on hand.

Leave comments on blog posts

Comment on blog postsIf you’re anything like me, you follow a lot of different authors and writing sites, as well as blogs to do with areas of interest, and you read a lot of blog posts.

One thing that I have been trying to do lately is to comment on more of these posts, especially when the blogger makes it easy to do so.

Many blogs don’t require commenters to log in or subscribe to comment, and they allow you to include your name and URL when you comment. I’ve found that I often get people clicking through to my site when I comment.

Be a Regular Guest Blogger

Regular Guest BloggerThis weeks marketing tip doesn’t take any money, it just takes a bit of time, and it could take a bit of hunting.

Sharing some of your expertise by being a regular guest blogger can help you to grow your author platform. Currently, I am a regular guest blogger for three different blogs. The frequency of the posts varies, but it’s a task I enjoy and can help to promote me as an author.

The blogs I regularly contribute to, I found through Facebook I’m a member of. It started when the blog owners did a call out looking for contributors and I replied. At the time, I wasn’t sure if I had anything to share, especially as I hadn’t published a book at the time, but I figured I’d give it a go. I’ve now been doing this for nearly 2 years.

Create a mobile shop

Your Mobile ShopThis weeks marketing tip is something I blogged about last year, and is something that has brought me quite a few book sales, simply because I’ve had books on hand!

In my car, I have a plastic tub from KMart that contains copies of my books and everything I need to make sales. The purpose is to have books in my car at all times for those people who say “I would love a copy of your book, if you have one on hand! If I was taking books to a market, I would use something different (and have more books!), but that’s a topic for another post.

Update your website

Update Your WebsiteLast week, I took advantage of some quiet time to do something I haven’t done for a while – updating my author website!

I realised that I blog here regularly, however my website was out of date. I published an ebook back in July that hadn’t been added, as well as the latest Teapot Tales anthology. I have also added a few extra blog posts, including back dating a Christmas message!

My marketing tip for this week is to update your website.

Take some Christmas photos of your books

Take Christmas Images of your BooksOne of the things I want to do in 2016 is more promotion for my books. This will help me grow my platform as well as help sell more books (obviously).

As life is busy, I want to try and do one little thing each week with the view that they will build on each other, and share what I’m doing and let you know how they went. I was planning to start this in 2016, however I came up with one idea I want to share with you before you take your Christmas tree down!

For a while, I’ve been wanting to promote my books, especially the anthologies, as Christmas gifts. I have also wanted to have Christmas images of my books for a Facebook banner and other social media images.

ABC – Day 32 – Time for some shout outs

Time for some shout outs

Time for some shout outs

Time for some shout-outs. This may mimic your acknowledgement page, but whom would you like to publicly thank for their help in creating your book or completing it to the point where it is presently?

With all the chapter books I write, the first shout out has to go to the Chapter Book Challenge. Without this challenge, I would still have a lot of half finished manuscripts sitting there without ever getting finished. The deadline of the challenge really pushes me to get the drafts finished.

ABC – Day 29 – Perfect Partner

Perfect partner?

Perfect partner?

Who would be the perfect person/company to partner with to sell your book? It might be another author, a performer, a shop owner, a seminar facilitator, a teacher, etc. Pretty much, the answer to this question is limited only by your imagination. How will you reach out to that person/company? What’s the hook for your pitch?

I would love to get Swallow Me, NOW! into schools as I know it will help kids who are being bullied. That is the hook for my pitch – a book to help kids who are being bullied, especially those who are facing bullying by exclusion.
