It’s CRAZY time!

Getting into the crazy time!

Getting into the crazy time!

We are about to get into the craziest time of year, for us at least. Along with Christmas, Mr Z also has his birthday on December 18. It is also the end of the year for us in Australia and there are Christmas concerts, work Christmas parties, break up gatherings for different activities, and any number of other events for the end of the year.

Add to this editing book 2 in the Green Oaks Primary School series, a picture book, writing stories for different Christmas competitions, and promoting Swallow Me, NOW!, it all adds up to crazy time! [Read more…]

Alternative places to buy books

Where to buy books

When you think of buying books, you probably think of heading to your nearest bookshop or going online to sites such as Amazon. There are some other places you can go to buy books, especially if you want to discover some new authors. While you can also get second hand books at some of these events, I’m thinking more about new books that can be used as gifts.

Here are just a few ideas, if you have any others, please add them in the comments. [Read more…]

Books for non-readers

Some people don’t read…

My grandfather tells us he has never read a book in his life. We know that’s not quite true as he used to read to us when we were kids, but there are some people who don’t read.

Last week, I posted about books being great gifts for Christmas. You can read the post here.

What if you have people on your list who aren’t readers? You wouldn’t want to get them the latest best-selling novel, so what do you buy? [Read more…]

Christmas is Coming….

Books make great gifts

It seems I can’t get on Facebook lately without someone posting a countdown to the number of days or weeks until Christmas. I always take a week off that as it tells me how long it is until Mr Z turns 11!

Along with the countdown posts, there are posts about ways to save money for Christmas and reminders about starting Christmas shopping early.

Friday Five – Why books make awesome gifts

Books make great gifts

Christmas is over for another year. I was so excited to see the piles of new books we all received – guess what we’re going to be doing this summer. I only hope they’ll last…

Here are five reasons why books make such wonderful gifts, not only at Christmas, but all throughout the year.

  1. Books don’t go off – they are gifts that can be enjoyed all year around, so it doesn’t matter how many books you have, they will be waiting there when you’re ready to read them. [Read more…]

Friday Five – Give an Author a Christmas Gift

Give a gift to an author

Christmas is nearly here again. I don’t know about you, but this is a busy time for our family. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that both of my kids are bookworms and they have their favourite books and authors.

Did you know you can give your favourite authors a Christmas gift this year? Here are five simple things you can do for your favourite author this Christmas.

  1. Give their book as a gift – one of the best things you can do is to buy a book to give as a gift. This can introduce your favourite author to a new reader as well as increase sales, always welcome at any time of the year. [Read more…]

Writers Reveal – Christmas holidays

Christmas holidays

It’s Writer’s Reveal time again. This time around, my topic is from Becky Fyfe from Imagine! Create! Write! – What is your favourite thing about the Christmas holidays?

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that this is a stressful time of year. Quite apart from Christmas and the end of school year stuff, Mr Z also has his birthday the week before Christmas! When I got this topic, I was tempted to say that my favourite part is when it’s all over… but then I thought about it more. [Read more…]

A Magical Moment – #AMMC-DFQ

A Magical Christmas

Yes, it’s October and it may be a bit early to be thinking about Christmas, but… this is a story for a flash fiction anthology. If they get to 50, this will be a print and eBook – so you may see a few posts in the next couple of days (the deadline is 29 October!). This story is based on a conversation with Mr N when he was nearly 3 and Mr Z was about to turn 1. Mr Zs birthday is 18th December.

First up, the stuff that has to be there: [Read more…]
