Being on GoodReads

Using GoodReads

A little while ago, someone in one of the online writer’s groups I’m in asked whether or not it was worth being on GoodReads.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, GoodReads is a place where readers hang out. You can keep track of books you have read, books you want to read, and discuss all things books with fellow readers and authors.

For me, I use GoodReads to keep track of the books I’ve read. The last few years, I’ve participated in their reading challenge and discovered new books by looking at the books my friends have been reading. I don’t spend a lot of time on there, just go in and out when the mood takes me.

I also make sure all my books are listed there for others to review.

Knowing how I use GoodReads, having my books listed there is important. I know I get annoyed when I’ve read a book and it’s not listed!

For me, GoodReads is a “set and forget” platform. I don’t actively promote my books on that site, I just make sure they are listed there. If someone posts a question on my author page, I get a notification it’s there and I’ll go in and answer it, but other than that, I don’t do much.

There are authors who use GoodReads much more actively, and one day I may be one of them, but for now, I’m happy getting the occasional review and keeping track of the books that I’m reading.

How do you use GoodReads?
