Successes for 2016

Successes for 2016

Children’s author Julie Hedlund, challenged participants of her 12 Days of Christmas for Writers series to post SUCCESSES (rather than resolutions) on our blogs this year. She believes the way New Year’s resolutions are traditionally made come from a place of negativity – what DIDN’T get done or achieved in the previous year.  Instead, she suggests we set goals for the New Year that BUILD on our achievements from the previous one. I decided to participate in this Anti-Resolution Revolution! Here is my list for 2016.

This year has been a crazy year for me, and I felt like I hadn’t achieved much… then I wrote this list!

  • Published 3… 2… 1… Done!, the second book in my Green Oaks Primary School series and the first book in the World to feature a speedcuber
  • Launched The Music In Me, an anthology of stories written by young people in the City of Monash.
  • Continued running the Young Writers Group at the Monash Library
  • Won the Chapter Book Challenge in March and Blog Your Book in 30 Days
  • Blogging here and as a contributing blogger for Australasian Christian Writers and Christian Writers Downunder
  • Read 40 books this year, most as part of the PopSugar Reading Challenge!
  • Attended Meet the Publishers in May and pitched a book that was well received, even though the manuscript wasn’t completed yet! I have also got my ticket to attend in 2017.
  • Wrote the first draft of a romance novel for grown ups and half a second one!
  • Wrote quite a few pieces of flash fiction, mostly from writing prompts at Young Writer’s Group but all have potential either as stand alone pieces, or as the start for longer stories
  • Attended quite a few markets this year with my good friend, Julie Anne Grasso, where we sold quite a few books as well as had some great chats about writing and publishing

As I said at the start, 2016 has been a tough year, and I had thought I hadn’t achieved much… but seeing them all written down like this, it hasn’t been as devoid of writing as I had thought.
