A-Z – Juggling

Closest pic I had for juggling!

The lead up to Christmas is a busy time of year. If I’m completely honest, this whole year has been busy! As well as writing, I have a day job and two teenagers with chronic medical conditions. This year has been a whirlwind of work, medical appointments, school pick up, and keeping the kids fed… in between all that, I have been trying to find time to write – and not only on this blog.

Sometimes, finding time to write feels like juggling. Everything has to be working to get that time… and all the balls need to be thrown into the air at just the right time so they can be caught and the next ball can be thrown up. If things aren’t working, then a ball will fall. This will either result in less balls in the air, or a complete disaster with all the balls dropping.

This year, juggling seemed to be what I was doing all the time, and a couple of months ago, disaster struck and all my balls came tumbling down. I was simply overwhelmed and was doing way too much, mostly for everyone else and not looking after me. Part of this was not making my writing a priority!

Writing, either a new story or even on this blog, is something that feeds me. It helps to build me up, and keep the stories in my head from taking over! I know that to keep myself enjoying life, I need to make time for words.

One of the first things I did to get back in the swing of things was to do the Author Blog Challenge. I didn’t have to think too much as a prompt was given to me each day. It helped get me back in the swing of things. I am also looking forward to the Chapter Book Challenge and Meet the Publishers next year. For both of these, I have a deadline to work towards which means I need to make some time for my writing.

There are days when I look back at 2016 and think of all the opportunities missed while I was too busy juggling. I guess that’s what happens sometimes… I’m looking forward to 2017. I’m hoping that juggling won’t be quite so crazy next year.
