Day 16 – How do you approach book marketing on social media?

Social Media for book marketing

Social Media for book marketing

Day 16 prompt is:

The first word in social media is SOCIAL. How are you using social media to promote your book, without coming across too salesy/pushy? What aspect of social media would you like to learn more about? What are your next steps?

I have Facebook and Twitter set up, though Facebook has been the platform I use the most. To be honest, I struggle with social media as I’m definitely not selling enough books to make up for the time spent there!

However, I have met some amazing people through social media, mostly other authors who are incredibly supportive of each other. We  help each other through the ups and downs of life as an author, from writers block and bad reviews to launching our books and great reviews.

An added bonus of this support is that we buy each other’s books, support crowdfunding campaigns, attend book launches, share details of books with our followers, and much more.

Most of what I do is share blog posts, interesting articles, photos and quotes, and let my followers know about other authors and books they may find interesting.

As a children’s author, the people who read my books shouldn’t be on social media because they are under 13… so I have been looking for ways to market my books without using social media… Their parents may be on social media, so it would be great to learn more about how to reach them. I have no idea what my next steps are right now, other than write some more books!
