Chapter Book Challenge Update – Nearly there #ChaBooCha

Chapter Book Challenge 2016

Chapter Book Challenge 2016

It’s nearly the end of March and things are going really well. I have two stories that are progressing well, but the biggest surprise of all happened last weekend.

Last Thursday, I ran the usual Teen Writers Group at the local library and we had some Easter goodies as writing prompts. These included eggs, bunnies, chickens, and hot cross buns. I started writing a story called “The Great Easter Egg Disaster”, just for fun.

When I got home, I decided to keep writing. I had a chat with my friend, Julie Anne Grasso, author of the Frankie Dupont Mysteries, to get some tips on writing a mystery, and then kept writing.

On Friday, I wrote over 2,500 words, and just kept going. By Monday night, I had just under 5,000 words and a complete story. It needs a lot of work, and I can already see some holes that need filling – but a draft has been written!! Tonight I’m planning to fill some of those holes. I honestly can’t believe I wrote that much, especially seeing we had a weekend full of Easter activities including my 12 year old getting baptised and family coming over to visit.

I can now say that I have completed the Chapter Book Challenge for 2016 with a complete draft, as well as two incomplete drafts that will get finished soon.

I must say that completing that many words over 4 days is a huge achievement and I’m in the process of working out what the main differences were that I was able to get this story done. When I have worked it out, I’ll share a post sharing how I did it.

For those of you who are part of the Chapter Book Challenge, how are you going?
