Looking to 2016….

Plans for next year

Plans for next year

Recently I read a great blog post by KA Last about making blogging work for you. You can read the article here. The questions at the end have been thought provoking, leading me to think about my own blog and what I want out of it.

I started this blog in 2011 as a way to share my writing journey and to keep me accountable for the things I was writing. Little did I know how it would evolve.

Since starting this blog, I have shared a lot about my writing journey, things I have learned about publishing and promoting books, participated in writing and blog challenges, and a whole lot more. There are over 500 posts that have been written and published in that time. I have also published my first book and had flash fiction stories published in a number of anthologies.

Behind the scenes, I have been working on more kids books, flash fiction, non-fiction and even a couple of novels for grown ups. In 2016, I’m hoping to publish the next two books in the Green Oaks Primary School series, as well as at least one other story I’ve been working on.

Back to this blog. What do I want from this blog?

In 2016, I’m looking at going back to basics and sharing more about my writing journey and what I’m learning in the process. Ideally, I’ll post once or twice a week, more when I have time and inspiration.

Looking back at old posts, I am missing the weekly Write on Wednesdays prompts. I’m looking for a new activity like this. If anyone knows of something, please let me know. The weekly flash fiction was a great exercise to get the creative juices running. If anyone knows of something, please let me know.

I am also looking at how to organise this blog so it can become the central place for all my writing, instead of having to maintain multiple sites. I’m still working on how this will work…

By going back to basics, I hope it will take some of the pressure off, as well as giving you all some interesting posts to read and an insight into what I’m working on and what I’ve been learning.

I’m still working out how this will all work, watch this space.  I hope you will enjoy the journey and keep helping out with my stories as I ask for help from time to time!

  1. I’m so glad I inspired you! I think we often spend time doing things for others (which is great) but it’s nice to do things for ourselves as well. Have you thought about starting your own regular writing prompt activity, or another activity that interests you?

    • I have been seriously considering it, however I’m worried about keeping it going… I tried creating a Flash Fiction challenge once, and it faded very quickly! I might have to start it up again in 2016 as the regular writing really helped 🙂
