ABC – Day 24 – Book signing

Signing Books

Signing Books

Describe your first book signing – real or imagined.

On October 25 last year, I had my first book signing. I had signed books before, such as copies of Teapot Tales, but this event was the book launch for Swallow Me, NOW!, and I had people lining up to get their books signed!

It was a wonderful event. The local library hosted it in the foyer and it was open to anyone. I sent invitations far and wide via email, Facebook, flyers in the library and ones I handed to people. The launch was fantastic. You can read more about it here.

I put together tips I’d gathered from other launches to make the signing go smoothly. These included:

  • Have someone else on the selling table so you can concentrate on signing
  • Have extra pens – just in case
  • Include the date you signed the book
  • Make sure you get correct spelling – I had a piece of scrap paper to write on. Other launches I’ve been to have had people walk the line with a post-it note to get people’s names
  • Have a chair and table – it’s much easier signing sitting down with a table to lean on
  • Have some nibbles to keep people around while they are waiting

I had so much fun at my first book signing, I can’t wait to do it again.
