Remember to look after yourself too…

Last night, I had a migraine. I was exhausted and my head was killing me, all I wanted was an early night. But, I’m a mum, so I had to get the kids their dinner and into bed before I could collapse.

I hastily wrote a blog post, and looked at the comments from my editor for the next chapter. The goals I posted on Sunday stated that I would edit at least a chapter a night this week, but all I wanted to do was sleep.

It was about the point when the screen was looking funny I decided to turn the computer off, take some pain killers, and head off to bed. I gave myself permission to look after me first, my editing could wait.

This morning, I was feeling much better than I was last night, though still not brilliant. My back and neck are still sore, though my head doesn’t hurt. This gave me a reminder:

No matter what your goals are, remember to look after yourself too.

There will be times when our bodies tell us that it’s time to take a break, and it will be different for different people. You may get a cold, a headache, aches and pains in your arms and back, or any number of other physical signs that say it’s time to get away from the computer or notebook and do something different for a while.

This is some advice I have to keep reminding myself to take, no matter how much writing or editing I have, I still have to take care of myself and ensure that I am healthy – then I’ll be able to keep writing and editing and publishing books (and blog posts).
