Friday Five –Reasons to have a book launch

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Friday Five…

I have two friends launching their books tomorrow. The first is Jemma Phillips with her book The Bucket Sheep, and the second is Julie Anne Grasso with her book Frankie Dupont and the Science Fair Sabotage.

Book launches are a lot of fun, as well as work to put on, but they are worth it. For this week, I look at five reasons authors should have a book launch.

  1. Celebrate – what better way to celebrate all your hard work than a party? A book launch is a great way to have a party and celebrate your new book with your family and friends.
  2. Thank you – a book launch is a wonderful opportunity to thank all those who have helped in the creation of your book, from your editor and publisher, to your family who put up with you while you’re writing.
  3. Book sales – there will be people who come to your launch who will buy your book. This is a great way to kick start sales of your book.
  4. Book Signing – there is something special about a book signed by the author. At your launch, it’s an opportunity for your fans to get signed copies of your latest book.
  5. Introduce your book to new readers – if you have your launch at public venue such as a book shop or local library, a launch is a fun way to find new readers, especially if your venue will also promote your launch through their networks. You never know, your next biggest fans could be just waiting to discover your book.

Do you have anything you would add to this list?

I wish Jemma and Julie all the best for their book launches tomorrow.
