Writing a Scrib with Describli

Describli – fun writing exercises

It was a while ago now that I received an invitation to join a new writing site called Describli. They were looking for beta users. It was free, so I signed up. I figured I had nothing to lose.

I did a single piece of writing, then forgot about it for a while.

Since Swallow Me, NOW! has been completed, I’ve got back on the site and have had a lot of fun writing scribs and reading the pieces others have written.

The way the site works is it gives you four daily writing prompts to choose from, and you write a short piece about that prompt. Other users can then read your pieces and add comments. There are also story games where you can write a story and challenge other users to write one too. These also use the daily writing prompts. I haven’t done any of these yet, although I have been challenged.

As you write scribs, add comments, rate stories, and have your stories rated, you can earn points and move up the leader board. You can also earn badges along the way for different achievements.

I’ve been having fun using this as a way to clear my head for a while before getting ready to work on my next book. All the pieces I’ve written are first drafts, so they are far from perfect, however there are a couple that can be built into something more. Most of the people who read my pieces are fantastic, rating what I’ve written and writing constructive comments. It’s also fascinating to see how other people have interpreted the same writing prompt.

Given the nature of the site, you don’t have to post every day, just get on when you have some time.

Describli can be a good tool to get started with writing for the day if you want a prompt to just write and clear your head, it can be a place to go when you need a bit of a break, you could use the prompts to write a snippet that may fit somewhere in your current novel, or even just somewhere to go for a fun writing exercise.

I’ve been having fun using the writing prompts for the pure joy of writing something.

If you want to join the site, go to www.describli.com and click on “I want beta access” and they’ll send you a code to enter, then you’ll be able to register and join in the community. If you do join, you can find my profile here.

Note: this is not a sponsored post, I’ve just been having fun on this site & thought some of you might like to join me.
