Writer’s Reveal – Quirky Habits

Quirky habits?

It’s time again for Writer’s Reveal. This month, the topic is: Quirky Writer’s Habits: We’ve all got them so it’s time to share.

Quirky habits, where do I start? Putting pictures in blog posts that vaguely resemble the topic probably wouldn’t count as a quirky habit… or does it? I think not.

I don’t have any real routine to writing as I try and fit it in wherever I can between work, kids, and everything else that needs to be done, so that wouldn’t count as a quirky habit…

As for where I like to write and how I like to write, that could be counted as a quirky habit. I like to curl up on the couch with my laptop, usually with a DVD on the TV. I’ve been trying to think why I like to write this way, and could simply be to do with the fact that I work at a desk on computers all day and I like to make my writing space different to where I work.

When we were on holiday in January, the house we stayed at had the most comfortable couch for curling up to write on. I want a couch like that with a swing table for my laptop, but it’s something I have to save up for.

As for the DVD, I think it also has a lot to do with making my writing space different to where I work. It’s strange, but what is on TV doesn’t distract me. Most of the time, it’s a movie or TV show I’ve seen before, so I don’t need to pay too much attention.

I have read so many articles about sitting at a desk and setting up the perfect atmosphere for writing, they all seem too much like my day job right now, so I think I’ll stick with my quirky writing space for now.

  1. I write like that too, often in front of sport and when I am asked the score I reply with a plot twist…

  2. Space schmace, as long as the words are flowing! Sounds fab to me. Thanks for playing along x

  3. I often do the same thing, writing in front of the TV. I usually leave the channel on something I’ve seen before too. Maybe it just makes me feel more comfortable while I work. Glad to see I’m not alone!

  4. It depends as to what is on as to whether I get distracted or not. Having only recently acquired a laptop I had no choice but to write at my computer desk. Now in bed is my favourite writing spot though it is not always that comfortable.
