Friday Five – Blogging during a challenge

Five ways to keep blogging during a challenge

Unless you’re a brand new reader, or haven’t been reading very closely, you may be unaware that tomorrow is the start of the Chapter Book Challenge. Quite a few things have been cleared from my schedule so I can concentrate on my chapter book writing. I know I’m not the only one, and this isn’t the only challenge this happens.

Anyone who blogs knows that they key to keeping people reading is to blog regularly. So, how do you keep up the blogging during a challenge? Here are five tips to keep you going:

  1. Schedule posts in advance – depending on how often you blog, you may want to schedule posts in advance. I have all the Posts for Authors posts scheduled for March.
  2. Change your posting schedule – if you usually post every day or every few days, change your schedule. You may find it easier to post once or twice a week instead of more often. This will keep your blog active but still free up your time.
  3. Shorten your posts – if you usually post a long essay as a blog post, consider posting something shorter. You could also try list posts or similar that are quick and easy to write.
  4. Guest posts – In the lead up to a challenge, put the word out that you would like people to submit some guest posts on your blog. You could give some awesome writers some exposure, introduce your readers to some other writers and keep your blog humming.
  5. Picture posts – these sorts of posts could act as a teaser for your current work in progress or simply be something fun. Post some pictures related to the challenge. They could be teasers of what you are working on or where you are working, or even your word count (if it’s that sort of challenge).

I hope these tips are useful. I know I’ll be scheduling a few more posts to be published in March while I work on my chapter book (one more sleep!).

Do you have any more tips to add to this list?
