Chapter Book Challenge – one week to go… #ChaBooCha

Chapter Book Challenge – 7 days to go

This time next week, I’ll be starting the 2014 Chapter Book Challenge. I can’t wait.

2014 is the third year I’ve participated in the challenge and it’s been incredibly rewarding. Not only have I completed manuscripts, but I have also met a wonderful group of writers from around the World, all who are passionate about writing books for primary school age kids.

Other things I’ve got out of the challenge include:

  • Learning from established authors through their posts on the Chapter Book Challenge blog
  • Winning some awesome craft books
  • Opportunity to participate in the Chapter Book Challenge anthologies
  • Opportunity to share some of my knowledge on the Chapter Book Challenge blog – a huge honour, especially as I haven’t had any chapter books published… yet

This year, there’s another great advantage. If you’re in Melbourne, we’re kick starting the challenge on March 1 with a workshop at the Oakleigh Library. You can find their details on their site, just scroll down until you find it. I can’t wait to add to my knowledge and pick up any tips the speakers have for me to help with this years challenge.

I have two ideas that I’m planning, both are spin offs from the book I wrote last year. One has a full story line and the other is nearly planned out. I just need to decide which one to write first.

I’ve checked that one of my favourite tools is set up. This is a site called 750words.com. The reason I like this site is that I can write during my lunch break at work during the challenge, and at home in the evening, and I don’t have to worry about carrying my laptop with me, or having different versions of the file in different places. It also encourages me to just get the draft written! By writing 750 words each day, in about 2 weeks, I have my draft (all going well).

Now, there are only 7 days until this all kicks off and I can’t wait. If you’re interested in writing chapter books and want to join the challenge, it’s not too late. Simply click here to sign up as an official participant, then join in the fun.
