International Book Giving Day 2014 – #giveabook

Yesterday was International Book Giving Day. Yes, I know it was also Valentine’s Day, I but I prefer giving books.

Last year was the first year I got involved, giving books to my sons and my nephews. The boys enjoyed their books so much, that I decided to do the same this year.

Books for the boys

I had a fun time at lunch choosing books for my kids, aged 10 and 12, as well as my nephews aged 4, 2.5, 1.5, and 7 months. I printed out the gorgeous book plates by Nicky Johnston to go with them and waited for after school to start giving them out.

Mr Z was so impressed with his book, Angry Animals, that he started reading in the car on the way to school!

Two of my four nephews have received their books and they went down well. Mr O, aged 4, was given Jackson’s Footy as he loves playing football with Mr N. Mr J, aged 1.5, received a book about dinosaurs. He carried it around with him for the afternoon asking anyone he could find to read him “Di-saurs”.

I love this idea. Kids need books and can never have too many, in my opinion.

When I have books published, part of my plan is to build International Book Giving Day on the calendar and give copies to local schools and anywhere else I can.
