Doing some soul searching…

Doing some soul searching

I don’t know if it’s the start of the year, or what, but I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching about what I want to focus on this year. School started back last week with Mr N starting high school and Mr Z started grade 5, and I’m back at work. Time is short and if I want to reach my goals, I need to focus…

Last year, I’ve found that chapter books and non-fiction were the things that I actually worked on. My manuscript from the 2013 Chapter Book Challenge is coming along nicely, as is one of my non-fiction books. Looking at my blogs, there’s the potential for quite a few more non-fiction books there.

The more I think about it, the more chapter books and stories for primary school kids are what is really exciting me right now – so I think my 2014 focus is going to be on chapter books. I want to:

  • get my 2013 chapter book manuscript in good shape
  • write a new one in the 2014 chapter book challenge
  • have an amazing time at a chapter book writing workshop I’m organising with my local library on 1 March
  • put together a collection of fractured fairy tales – this is half written, I just need a few more stories and some serious editing

This is as well as working on some non fiction. If I can fit them in, I’d also like to write some more picture books, but that will come secondary. It will be interesting to see how this goes at the end of the year. I’m looking forward to it.

Now, off to do some more editing, before starting to cook dinner…
