Writers Reveal – Christmas holidays

Christmas holidays

It’s Writer’s Reveal time again. This time around, my topic is from Becky Fyfe from Imagine! Create! Write! – What is your favourite thing about the Christmas holidays?

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that this is a stressful time of year. Quite apart from Christmas and the end of school year stuff, Mr Z also has his birthday the week before Christmas! When I got this topic, I was tempted to say that my favourite part is when it’s all over… but then I thought about it more.

I think one of my favourite times is the Christmas service at church. On Christmas Day, it’s usually a quiet service as most people go to the midnight service on Christmas Eve. With the kids, it’s too hard to go to the late service as they get up early every morning, regardless of when they go to bed.

The service is usually reflective with some of the classic Christmas carols. It’s a special time to reflect on what Christmas means to us. It’s also some quiet time with my kids, away from the noise of the family celebrations and all the presents. It’s a chance to take a breath and reflect on what the day means to us in the middle of Christmas songs, messages of Santa, presents, food, and all the other things that go with Christmas day.

This year, things will be a bit different. The boys are spending the afternoon with their Dad, so the day will be very quiet, so our church service will be something even more special as it will be time the three of us can be together. I’m quite looking forward to it.

What is your favourite part of the Christmas holidays?

  1. Hope you have a great day, My favourite part is the morning, just because it’s only us and the kids (and dogs). Nice to get some time to ourselves, even if it isn’t very long.

  2. This is lovely. Great idea to go on Christmas Day instead of midnight mass like everyone else! If Christmas Day wasn’t a constant car trip to all the scattered family, I’d possibly join you!

  3. What a lovely tradition to have. I am a bit excited because this year Christmas Day is being held at my house. Which means I don’t have to go anywhere! As you can tell I find that super exciting. Wishing you the loveliest of days, filled with fairy wishes and butterfly kisses

  4. How nice – I always loved the Christmas service as a child, and when I’m at home with mum I still go. It’s a great chance to sing some carols and spend time with the people we love. Thanks so much for being a part of Writer’s Reveal 2013!

  5. What a great tradition! It’s nice to find some peace on Christmas Day; I think we all know how stressful the holidays can be. Hope you have a great Christmas, and a Happy New Year! 🙂

  6. This is a lovely tradition to have – and it will be more special since you won’t have the boys in the afternoon, I bet that will be hard. My friend hasn’t got her daughter at all this Xmas, for the first time in 5 years her ex will have her, will be a hard Xmas for many x
