Writer Reveal – Family

e and my boys – The Grampians, December 2010

It’s that time of the month again – Writer’s Reveal. Rhianna from A Parenting Life has set me the topic of Family. When I saw the topic, I originally thought of doing a piece of flash fiction about a family or something like that. I’ve run out of time, so I thought I’d introduce you to my family instead.

I’m the oldest of 4 children, two girls then two boys. I’m also the aunty to four gorgeous nephews aged between 4 months and 3 years old. I live with my parents and I still have one grandparent alive.

The most important part of my family are my two gorgeous boys, and that’s what this post is really about.

Mr N is 11 and in Grade 6. He loves AFL football, music and reading. He’s a bubbly kid who isn’t part of the popular crowd, but is still well liked by his peers. He’s off to high school next year, an exciting and scary time for both of us. In the photo, he’s the one in green, although now he’s standing above my shoulder.

Mr Z is 9 and in Grade 4. He’s mad about lizards and reptiles and reading. Right now he is recovering from glandular fever, a long, frustrating process. He’s spending a lot of time listening to audio books. In the photo, he’s wearing the blue t-shirt and is a head shorter than his brother.

My boys are amazing and are so encouraging of my writing (I had to give them each a signed copy of Teapot Tales as they want to collect all my books!). They look at projects like Julie Hedlund’s crowdfunding project and say “You could do that Mum” as a way to get my books published and on the market, or just so they can have more books on their shelves.

For one of my projects, the boys have been amazing coming up with ideas to help fill in the gaps. This is planning for the Chapter Book Challenge next year so I can write an amazing story.

They are my biggest fans and can’t wait to see a shelf full of books with my name on it. I also love that they are both writing and telling their own stories as well as having a love of books themselves.

The rest of my family are amazing and supportive too, but it’s my gorgeous boys who are my biggest cheerleaders.

  2. Nice to learn about you and your family. Your boys sound delightful, tell me they were little monkeys at 2 and 4 to make me feel better about mine though?? )

  3. Your boys sound like really passionate people – they will do great things I am sure. Glandular fever sure takes it out of them, doesn’t it. Poor kid, he must be desperate to feel back to normal again!

  4. Great post! Your boys seem really sweet! It’s always wonderful to have the support of family, especially the loved ones closest to us. Wishing you all the best! 🙂
