November Challenges…

Which challenge in November?

For some reason, November is the popular month for writing challenges… the biggest challenge right now is deciding which one to be part of!

Some of the ones that I know about include:

  • NaNoWriMo – This is National Novel Writing Month. The idea is to write a novel in month of around 50,000 words.
  • PiBoIdMo – This is Picture Book Idea Month. The idea is to write an idea for a picture book every day during November. While registration is now closed, I could still do this unofficially.
  • Write NonFiction in November – This one explains itself. The idea is to write a non-fiction book during November.

I’m sure there are some other challenges, but these are the three that most people in my newsfeed on Facebook are talking about. They all have appeal, but I’m not sure how much time I have for it right now…

Although, I have started on my Fantastic Fillers book, turning my blog into a book. So the third challenge could be just what I need to get this actually written, instead of being a pile of blog posts. It would be good to have that kick up the butt.

I have attempted NaNoWriMo the last 2 years, but haven’t completed that novel. The biggest issue has been time. November is actually quite a busy month here in Australia as many end of year events start mid-November to avoid the Christmas rush. I’ve got some research started for a novel or two that come from some of my flash fiction stories, but not quite enough to get the whole novel written.

With PiBoIdMo, coming up with the ideas could kick start me for the 12×12 challenge next year, although coming up with ideas isn’t really a problem as I have so many ideas swirling around in my head. The issue is more getting them written down.

It looks like the Writing Non Fiction in November might be the best fit for where I am right now… Hopefully I’ll have the first draft of Fantastic Fillers ready to go by the end of November. Wish me luck.
