Nominated for the Liebster Award

I’ve got the Liebster Award!

Wow! I’ve been nominated by the wonderful Becky Fyfe for the Liebster Award. The Liebster Award is for wonderful blogs with less than 200 followers. The word “Liebster” Means sweetheart in German.

In accepting this award, I have 10 questions to answer and then nominate another 5 bloggers and ask them some questions. So, here are my answers:

1. Why were you drawn to writing?

To be honest, I’m not really sure how it started, it’s just been something I’ve enjoyed and been good at. When I was a teenager, I liked it because it was mine and not something my siblings were doing. It was also something that I could do quietly on my own and I didn’t have to juggle to get Mum and Dad’s time to take me places. It was also a good way to sort out my feelings about life. By writing fiction about what was happening it helped me get things out of my head. Much cheaper than a therapist!

2. How many years have you been making or trying to make writing your career?

Back in 2002, I started a business. A big part of this was writing and I was blogging since before it was popular. While this may not have been part of a writing career, it was a big part of what I was doing. It’s only been the last couple of years that I’ve been writing fiction and dreaming of it becoming my career.

3. Are you published? Where?

I’m published on blogs and have had articles and guest blog posts published over the years. Most recently, I’ve had 3 stories published in Teapot Tales: a collection of unique fairy tales. I’m hoping this is the first of many books I’m published in.

4. What is your favorite part about writing stories?

Getting the stories out of my head! Sometimes I’m glad that there aren’t actually mind readers out there, otherwise they would be worried about what goes on in my head. It’s also wonderful to see the stories develop on the page.

5. What is your favorite genre?

I don’t have a favourite genre. Most of what I write is more real life than fantasy, although I am having a lot of fun writing fractured fairy tales at the moment.

6. Where do you find your inspiration?

All over the place! Sometimes it’s a writing prompt, sometimes it’s an idea that will pop in my head, sometimes it could be something someone says or a challenge someone has given me. It could even be from something I see on TV, hear on the radio or read in a book. Inspiration can be anywhere and everywhere.

7. How active is your muse?

Right now, it’s reminding me a lot of my 9 year old who is recovering from glandular fever. At times it’s so active I can’t keep up, then just as quickly it crashes and needs a nap for a while… Although, unlike my son, it can sometimes be tempted out of a nap with a good writing prompt.

8. If you could have a conversation with your muse, what would you say?

Please be more predictable, and let me have one idea at a time!

9. What are the latest projects you are working on?

I’ve just finished three flash fiction pieces to be included in a Christmas anthology, put together by the same amazing people who put together Teapot Tales, as well as turning my Fantastic Fillers blog into a book. I’m also editing the books I wrote for the last couple of Chapter Book Challenges and the picture book manuscripts I wrote last year. I just wish there were more hours in the day!

10. What plans or dreams do you have for your writing in the next year?

I would like to publish a book of my own next year as well as participating in the Chapter Book Challenge anthologies if they do them again. The anthologies have been a lot of fun to be part of.

Now to choose a few more bloggers to nominate:

Please answer these questions however you see fit. Since I’m lazy I’m copying and pasting the instructions: “If you choose to accept here are the directions: Link back to the blogger that tagged you. Nominate 5-10 others and answer the questions of the one who tagged you (mine are below). Then ask 10 questions for the bloggers you nominate as well as letting your nominees know of their award. Oh, yeah—and have fun! ☺”
