Fairy Tale Challenge set by my boys

Writing fairy tales

Following the publication of Teapot Tales: a collection of unique fairy tales, my kids were disappointed that no one had written a version of Cinderella. So, they set me a challenge to write a version of Cinderella.

It was quite fun playing around with. This was Monday night. I wrote my story after the boys were in bed and they read it the next morning – and loved it.

So they set me another challenge…

Last night, they asked me to write a version of The Three Little Pigs. My challenge tonight is to tackle Sleeping Beauty.

If this keeps up, I’ll have enough fairy tales for my own anthology!

So far, I have (the first 3 are in Teapot Tales):

  • The Frog Prince
  • The Princess and the Pea
  • Rapunzel
  • Cinderella
  • The Three Little Pigs
  • Sleeping Beauty (after tonight)

What is your favourite fairy tale? Any suggestions of fairy tales to add to my list?

  1. My all time favourite is the 7 swans (or 7 ravens). And I was so happy when Juliet Marillier rewrote this as a novel and then a series of novels. In fact, I’ve read her other novelisations of fairy tales, including the 12 Dancing Princesses and Beauty and the Beast (they have other names I can’t remember right this minute).
