A Change is as Good as a Holiday – Right?

Change is as good as a holiday?

Lately, my fiction writing has fallen a bit by the wayside. I’ve found that when life is frantic and I’m tired, I struggle with it – even editing. Instead I’ve been doing quite a bit on my Fantastic Fillers blogged book, as well as looking at some of my other non fiction project ideas.

For me, having a number of projects on the go helps me to keep on writing, even if it’s just a blog post that forms part of a blogged book.

I’ve seen a lot of quotes lately about writing and not waiting for inspiration to hit – I find that I need inspiration or it sounds forced, especially when it comes to writing for children. Non fiction, however, can be a bit more forced. I can plan out my project and see gaps to fill. That’s not so say that there are times when the ideas just don’t come (I still haven’t thought of a filler that starts with X, for example), but I do find it’s often easier to just sit down and write when it comes to non fiction.

This is just me, and it helps keep me writing. I know there are some writers out there who can just sit and write every day and have various routines, etc, and that’s awesome. It just doesn’t work for me.

So, my fiction writing has switched to non fiction for a while. After all, a change is as good as a holiday…. right? Hopefully the Fiction Fairy will visit again very soon and I can get some of my fiction projects finished.
