I’m in a bit of shock…!

Chapter Book Challenge 2013

You won’t believe this, but two days ago I finished my rough draft for the Chapter Book Challenge! Over ten days, I wrote over 750 words to finish the story. Mr Z has read it and loves it. Mr N is about half way through and is enjoying it so far.

Right now I’m in the process of editing it to turn it in to a first draft.

Why am I calling my first attempt a rough draft rather than a first draft? It’s quite simple, there are so many holes in this story, a lot of room for descriptions and more action. I’ve also found some holes in consistency that need fixing up. I figure I have two more weeks to knock it in to shape to declare this challenge complete.

I’m really happy with this story, and I love the ending. It’s a happy ending but not the same as other books with a similar theme that I’ve seen in the past. It’s a lot more realistic. Once it gets to first draft stage, I can start looking at asking others to read it, and then get it ready to send to my editor for polishing.

I’ve also had the honour of reading some of the pieces the others in the challenge are writing. There are some amazing stories being created. I can’t help but wonder which ones will end up in bookshops and libraries… I’m looking forward to the day when I can start spreading the word about them.

Anyway, back to the editing. Oh, and I also started another story yesterday in my lunch break. It’s fun but I’m not loving it as much as the one I’ve just finished, but I may get there…
