Prompt #14 – My own social network

New social media network

It’s Day 14 of the Author Blog Challenge. Today’s prompt is:

OK, some might compare today’s prompt to yesterday’s – but they are different. This one is a little more creative than necessarily practical. Your answer doesn’t even have to be physically plausible – the goal is just to have a little fun, now that you’ve worked so hard for nearly 2 straight weeks! Here’s the question: If you could create a social media platform that doesn’t exist yet, what would it look like? What would it do? How would you use it to promote your books as well as those of other authors you know/like?

To be honest, I wouldn’t create a social media platform! There are so many that already exist and I really couldn’t think of another idea. As an introvert, social media is, in some ways, an answer to being able to network while still being tucked up at home on the couch and not actually talking to anyone. On the other hand, it’s exhausting as you still need to keep up with everyone else.

Don’t get me wrong, I have made some great friends and contacts through social media. Many I wouldn’t know existed if it weren’t for Facebook, blogging, Twitter, etc, and for that I’m grateful. On the other hand, it’s hard keeping up with all the platforms that it eats in to my writing time.

If I had to create something, it would be a face to face event, something to help get me out of my comfort zone and away from the computer, and to encourage others to read actual books instead of just collecting them! As far as promoting books, I would love people to meet authors and interact with them. For many, this can make books come alive.

I actually have an idea for a literary festival, but I’m not sure if it will become a reality… one that has both an online and offline component.

  1. I am intrigues by your last idea – a literary festival 🙂

  2. I feel you on creating a SM platform. Seems like everyone wants their own Facebook, huh? 🙂 I’m with Merlene on being intrigued by an online literary festival. Sounds like something lots of authors would be willing to be a part of. WRITE ON!
