Using old blog posts

Now is the time…

I have been a blogger since around 2006/2007, but the first post I still have is from 2008 on Business Mums Blog. For ages I’ve been wanting to turn these posts into a book or two to help small business owners.

It’s been really hot here in Melbourne, and my brain is fried. We have been spending most of our time inside by the air conditioner – almost perfect conditions for writing, except for the heat. Instead of working on a creative piece, like one of my chapter books, I’ve decided to go through and start work on turning blog posts to a book.

So far, I’ve put all the “Marketing Monday” posts in to Scrivener to start categorising them and putting them in to some sort of order. As these posts were added to the blog over a three year period, a lot of the information was current at time of writing, especially regarding Facebook and social media. Some of those have been removed as the information is out of date. There are also posts that repeat old information, for example, I have a number of posts about taking up opportunities as they come. These can be merged to be a chapter on its own instead of being multiple blog posts.

Once these posts have been sorted, then I can start editing them so they will read as chapters instead of disjointed blog posts. Currently the only thing they have in common is they are all about marketing. I have no idea if any editing will happen this week as our heat wave will be continuing, but you never know… for now, I’m going to make a cold drink and get back to sorting blog posts. What I can tell you is there are some great ideas for marketing a small business without spending a lot of money and being creative. Watch this space for the next update on how this is going.
