Spoiling myself

My really cool book tin

One of the things I want to do this year, is to remind myself of my dream of having books published. While it’s a bit hard for me to make a mock up of a book cover (I’ve heard people suggest you do this), especially as I can’t draw for a picture book, I’m looking for other ways to have reminders around me.

In the lead up to Christmas, I spotted a tin in the supermarket with all the boxes of shortbread and chocolates. It looked like a pile of books and I thought it was really cool. Last night I headed to the supermarket to get a few things for dinner and spotted the tin again, but this time it was half price.

I hadn’t looked at what it had inside it – turns out it has gingerbread stars covered in chocolate – I just loved the tin. As it was quite cheap, I picked one up for myself. The boys are already drooling over the contents… though I may end up saving them for when we have visitors.

I just love the tin. I’m not sure what I’ll use it for, maybe for keeping some pens and stationery in and then keep it on my desk, or in the kitchen with biscuits in it. We’ll see what happens once it’s empty.

Part of me wishes I’d been able to pick up a few for the present box to give to some of my writer friends… you never know, there may be some still available next time I’m at the supermarket.

  1. That is a very pretty tin. I’ve never seen one like that in my local stores in the United States. Hope you are able to find some more. Here, reduced sweets fly out of the stores.

    • Thanks Alana. I hadn’t seen them before here in Australia, maybe one of the reason I love it so much 🙂

  2. Very cute! Hmmm, must have a look around here and see if I can find one. How big is it? If it’s big enough, say A4 size then it would be great for keeping hard copies of your mans in or just jotter notes etc…of ideas. Keeping pens and stationery Items is cool too. Great find Melissa!

  3. We all deserve a little spoiling and inspiration!

  4. Hi Melissa….a lovely story. In the very least, you could add a little note everyday about something that brings you closer to your writing; a quote, a favourite book/author, a commitment to write 500 words, the 500 words themselves! I love it! One day, you’ll be ready to open the tin and it will contain all the material you need to take you to the place you need to go next.

I now want my own tin! #offshopping

  5. Hi Melissa,
That’s a lovely tin. Glad you could get it at a bargain price.
Lisa’s idea is brilliant. Can you imagine it exploding with goodness?
    Best wishes for 2013!
