Day 6 – Blogging Hurdles

Blogging hurdles

It’s Day 6 of the Blogging Olympics. Today’s prompt is hurdles and to blog about hurdles we have with blogging.

My biggest issue is time. I get ideas for blog posts often, but having the time to sit and write them is hard.

Between work, study and kids, my blogging time is in the evening. Lately, I’ve been so tired in the evenings I’ve been going to bed early.

To help with this, I’ve found the scheduling and dating feature of WordPress incredibly helpful.

One of the biggest advantages of this feature is that I can schedule posts to appear in advance. For example, if I have a quiet day and am inspired to write a number of posts, I can schedule them days, weeks, or even months in advance.

Another advantage is when I participate in blog challenges. If I fall behind, I can back date the posts to appear on the days that fit in with the challenge so that posts will appear in the order they need to be to meet the challenge.

To assist with planning posts, I will often create a series of posts, like Marketing Monday I had on my business blog. This helped with scheduling any marketing posts – they would appear on a Monday.

I’m not sure if this feature is also on Blogger, it may be. This has to be one of my favourite features on WordPress, and a great way to manage one of my biggest blogging hurdles.

  1. Yes I love the scheduling feature on WordPress too. I work 4 days per week so without it there’s no way I’d get time to post each Tuesday (which I do) … Fridays are easier because that’s my day off!
