How many readers?

Readers & getting paid…

The next question from T.L. Bodine in her impossible questions post is:

Would you rather have your book read by as many people as possible but not get paid for it, or get paid really well for it but only a handful of people read it?

This is an interesting question and one that I’ve been thinking about quite a bit, especially with regard to the Accidental WAHM stories…

The reality of my life is that I need to earn money to pay the bills. I have two growing boys who need clothes and shoes and school camps and music lessons and everything else that growing boys need. So, I guess my answer would be that if I got paid really well and only a handful of people read it, I’d be happy.

On the other hand, with blogging, I can get more people reading my stories, however I don’t get paid for them…

In many ways, this would also depend on the story I’m writing. There are some stories that I really want a lot of people to read. For the most part, this is because I think the story I’m telling would help them. There are other stories where that isn’t the motivation, so I think  I would be happy with getting paid a lot of money and only having a few readers.

  1. I guess I would prefer a handful of readers who really enjoy what I write to thousands who are pretty indifferent about my writing!
