Night-time scribblings…

Late night scribblings…

In the small hours of this morning, I came up with a wonderful story idea. The whole story played out in my mind, in my dream. The characters shared their conversations and I could see how the drama would play out.

I woke up enough to grab a notepad and pen, clipped on the reading light the boys gave me for Mother’s Day a few years ago so as not to wake a sleeping Mr Z, and scribbled down some dot points in the hope that it would be enough for me to remember the story when I was fully awake…

This morning, when I woke up, I checked out the notepad. The reading lamp was still clipped to it and there was scribbles all over the page where I had been writing.

There is one big problem… I’ve been having issues reading what I’ve written!!

I don’t know whether it was a lack of light while I was writing, or the fact that I was still half asleep, that made my writing so bad. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought one of my nephews had been at the page (one is only one year old and the other is two and a half – both are discovering pens and drawing).

I can only hope that the idea will come back to me again one day when I’m more awake so I can capture the full story and write it down properly.

  1. Oh Melissa, you definitely aren’t alone. I do this regularly.
Another specialty is DREAMING that I’m writing it down when in reality I’m not.

    • So glad I’m not the only one. I’ve been finding lately that the best story ideas are coming when I have no way to write them down…!

  2. Melissa,

I’m a having a similar problem in the shower. I come up with a great idea, washing my hair and by the time I’ve dried off, I have forgotten every part of it. I have found it come back in parts, the following day. But it’s never as awesome as it first appeared!

I have the same problem with the shower too! So glad I’m not the only one this happens too πŸ™‚

  3. This made me laugh as I have done the same thing, with the same results! LOL! πŸ™‚

  4. Darn, I guess I sleep too heavily. I often wake at 5 and start writing, though unfortunately never from a dream….sigh.
