Planning my own writing retreat…

Planning a retreat of my own…

Life is busy… I’m working, have two kids, studying, as well as trying to write. It can be hard to fill it all in.

For Mother’s Day, my 10 year old gave me a day spa voucher. It’s around an hours drive away from home, so I’m planning to make a weekend of it – as soon as I can.

I want to take my research and laptop and just write, when I’m not being pampered at the day spa, that is.

There are quite a few different writers conferences and retreats on around the place, however I can’t seem to get to them for a variety of reasons. While they are appealing, what I really need now is time on my own to write.

I told someone of my plan a couple of weeks ago, and they told me to leave the laptop at home!! This is a possibility, of course, however most of my works in progress are on there… I’ll also take a notebook and pen as this can be helpful if I get stuck.

One thing I know, I am looking for somewhere with no Internet access. That way there is no temptation to get online and play games on Facebook or write blog posts. The whole point is to get some writing done.

Currently, I’m on the hunt for somewhere nice and quiet to stay…

  1. Great idea! This is an idea that’s been shifting around in my mind lately too. It’s not too expensive to spend a couple of nights in a nearby hotel, and I’m thinking of doing that just for the sake of getting a weekend of writing without distractions.

  2. I think this is a great idea. I have the intention to have a weekend alone before I turn 30 (it’s on my 30 before 30 list) and now, I think I will be making it a writing retreat! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Sounds like a fab plan!
