Prompt #25 – Time for some shout outs

“Hi, I’m a Shouty Man” (with apologies to Horrible Histories)

The 25th prompt for the Author Blog Challenge is:

Time for some shout-outs. This may mimic your acknowledgement page, but whom would you like to publicly thank for their help in creating your book or completing it to the point where it is presently?

I have to admit, an acknowledgements page isn’t something I had thought of adding to this site. It’s now been added to my To Do List (should I have a page per book? Hmmmm…)

Anyway, there are lots of people to acknowledge in getting me here.

First would I would like to thank my High School English teachers. I don’t remember their names, however I do remember them encouraging me to write anything and in a variety of styles. This helped me discover writing as a creative outlet as well as something I was/am really good at.

Second I would like to thank my two gorgeous boys. They are amazingly encouraging, telling me to hurry up and finish my stories and get them published so they can have the first copy! (They then fight over who will have the first and who will have the second copy…) They are also the inspiration behind Jimmy James and many of  the picture book stories I am writing.

Thirdly I would like to thank participants in the challenges I have taken part in this year. There is the amazing group for the Chapter Book Challenge who helped me get the first Jimmy James book done (even though it now needs to double in size, according to my kids) and have stuck together even after the challenge has finished. The other amazing group is the 12×12 in 2012 group. The aim for this challenge is to write the first draft of 12 picture books this year. Again they are helping to get stories out of my head. With both these challenges I have met some amazing writers.

Fourthly I would like to thank the amazing people from PlanBig. They have supported my plans for being a published author in many ways, from bugging me when I haven’t updated in a while to answering my questions and giving me suggestions for story ideas when I’ve been stuck. I’m looking forward to adding my plans for marketing my books on there.

Fifth I would like to thank the amazing Tania from Typengraphics Studios for my gorgeous site 🙂

Lastly I would like to thank my family – my parents and siblings – who have been great cheer leaders for me.

Wow, that’s nearly a book!! There are many more I could add to this list, but this is a start…

  1. Glad to have you in 12 x 12!

  2. Always a pleasure to work with you Melissa. xx

Thanks so much for the shoutout!

  3. Kids are the best motivators, also the biggest distractions – where would we be with out them?

  4. I love the shout out to your English teachers, I had a few great ones too!

  5. I’m so glad we met in the `12 x 12 in 2012 group and equally glad you joined in the Chapter Book Challenge! You’ve been a great inspiration for everyone in both groups! And I love that you would give a shout out to your English teachers! (I almost, once upona time, became one.)

And your kids want you to double the length of your book – that’s pretty much what my kids told me too. And apparently, my antagonist needs to be even meaner than he already is.
