Prompt #14 – Surprising things about the writing process

Big surprises

The 14th prompt for the Author Blog Challenge is:

What has been the biggest surprise about writing/publishing your book? What has been the most enjoyable or most memorable aspect?

I think the biggest surprise has been how much I’ve enjoyed the writing process. It’s been wonderful meeting all the characters that have been living in my head and putting them down on paper and seeing their stories coming out.

Another thing that has been surprising is how supportive my kids have been. They are loving reading the pieces I’ve written and critiquing them. The boys are surprisingly insightful, especially with the chapter book series I’ve started working on. Lately they’ve been telling me the story is too short and it’s sent me back to the library to do more research so I can continue the story.

It’s enjoyable sharing this process with my boys and their enthusiasm is spurring me on. I can’t wait until I’m looking back on this time, especially sharing this aspect of the story when my books are published.

Most mornings, the boys get up and ask me what I’ve written the night before!

  1. I love this: “It’s been wonderful meeting all the characters that have been living in my head and putting them down on paper.” I know exactly how that feels. WRITE ON!

  2. I think it is so fantastic that your boys are not only excited about your chapter book series but are also giving you advice on it and contributing. They will remember these moments when they are holding the finished book(s) in their hands.

  3. Enjoying the writing process is one of the biggest rewards, I think. After all, it’s what we do, day in day out. We spend our lives in joy!
