Prompt #7 – Process for your book

Plan for my book…

The 7th prompt for the Author Blog Challenge is:

Describe your outline process for your book. What do you do to stay organized?

I don’t really have a process for my writing – I just write! Often I think I should do a plan, but then I remember back in high school when I had to write a plan… things would go so far off course that it was easier to write the plan after I had written the story or essay!

To stay organised, I’ve found one of the best things to do is to join in with challenges that set me a deadline to get things done. The main reward is nothing much other than a magnet for my fridge or a button to put on my blog, but something gets finished.

I have learned to pick and choose the challenges that fit best. NaNoWriMo was unrealistic for me as life got in the way of writing as much as I wanted – the daily word count was too high and I got discouraged. Other challenges such as 12×12 in 12 and the Chapter Book Challenge have been really good for me to do as they fit in better with the time I have to write.

Lately, for my Accidental WAHM stories I have started setting a guideline for length and this is helping me plan the story – 1000 words per chapter, and then the number of chapters to get where I want the story to go. Fingers crossed this helps me get these books written.

  1. That’s a good guideline but be prepared to break it when you feel it needs to be broken. WRITE ON!
