“Mean” Mum…

I'm a mean Mum...

I am half way through a manuscript for 12×12 in 2012 called “My Mummy is Evil”. This is another idea inspired by my kids – they told me I was evil for putting them to bed early!

I have a number of things my kids complain about that make me mean – can you add to this list?

The list includes:

  • Going to bed at normal time every night
  • Making them do homework
  • Getting off the computer & Internet to play outside
  • Brush teeth morning AND night
  • Taking out the rubbish
  • Watching the News instead of ABC3
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Tidy bedroom and put away toys
  • Help with the dishes

I need a few more things to add to this list. My kids are Primary School age, so ideally things that are aimed at that age group. Add a comment with your suggestions πŸ™‚

  1. Just this morning I was “evil” for telling my kids to HURRY UP and GET READY for school. “Why do you always have to yell at us dad?” I responded, “I am not yelling at you — I am encouraging you!” Well, we made it to school on time — surprisingly!

  2. Not letting them have candy any old time they want it.
Making them spit out their gum before playing sports.

  3. Thanks Eric & Jen.

Please, keep the ideas coming πŸ™‚ This book will be AWESOME!

  4. A mum is evil because she makes you clean the bathroom.
She only gives you $1.00 for allowance and she won’t help with tax when you’re buying a 99 cent toy.
She licks the pudding bowl all by herself instead of sharing.
She takes the best spot on the couch when you’re watching a movie.
She makes you shower even though you know you’re still clean.
She makes you go to bed at 8:00 PM even though the sun is still out and all your friends are playing street hockey.

  5. How about making them give kisses to scary Aunt Edna? Or making them keep the music at a normal volume or not sit too close to tv.

  6. BreNda & Marcie – Love your ideas. My kids love the shower one (though they have a bath) and keeping the TV volume down πŸ™‚

  7. Thanks Melissa. And they’re all true. Although they thought the tax was evil not me.

  8. I recall being evil by making the kids wear their coats when it’s cold, brushing their hair, and turning off the TV – occasionally all at the same time. Good luck with your list!

    • Thanks MotherReader. I’m planning to add brushing hair to the story for sure. Didn’t think about making them wear coats/jumpers when it’s cold… might have to add that one too!

  9. Melissa, this is a super idea that hits a nostalgic spot!
I don’t have kids, but I certainly was a kid, and your idea inspired me to think about the things that made my mum ‘mean’.

Forcing us to stop playing with our new toys on xmas day so that xmas dinner doesn’t go cold – MEAN.

Making us open our lunchboxes, starving, only to find a cream cheese and sultana sandwich – MEAN.

Starting a kiddie ‘savings account’ for me that can’t be accessed immediately and completely drained in order to buy lollies – MEAN.

Stopping me dig a giant hole in the backyard which I only did so they could buy me a swimming pool – MEAN.

Not buying me an underground swimming pool complete with rockpool spa and waterslide – MEAN

Not letting me have a horse in the backyard – MEAN.

Good luck with your book, and keep us posted on the progress. πŸ™‚
